So after yesterday’s post in which I was very confused, God has revealed some magnificently simple truths to me, which I hope will help those of you who feel confused about what peace actually means to us Christians. Yesterday I spoke of John 14:27:
“27 Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]“
I spoke of what this meant to me, and if you didn’t read yesterdays post and want to you can read it by clicking here. After yesterdays closing prayer, all I can say is wow, PRAYER IS POWERFUL! God began to teach me just as I had asked. It started off when I read my journaled thoughts on a book I had previously read. The quote which stuck out to me was this. “Your faith life is not horizontal; it is vertical.” – Dr. Robb Thompson. It amazes me how God can use others words to help us. So let me explain what God taught me through this. It is rather simple.
1) His peace is different to the worlds, and that is why we must not look to others in this world for peace and comfort, but rather look vertically in faith.
2) We must not build our desires of peace on others results of faith. In other words, we can not gain peace by knowing others have peace, we need to look to Christ and get peace for ourselves.
3) Peace starts in being still in the presence of God, looking to Him, whilst actively trusting Him in all that we do.
These three simple truths have changed my whole perspective on peace, and I hope they help you too. You see once God showed me the above, John 14:27 really began to make intuitive sense. I say so, because think about it, when we are looking to God, to Christ, trusting Him, we do not fear what is around us, as we do not see that which is around us. We see a God who can make all things possible! We see a God whom we can trust, who drives out the fear in us. By His perfect love, fear is driven out of us. Our hearts settle in knowing He is in control. It is a magnificent feeling, peace.
My new prayer is this, that you too may come to learn of the peace I have been shown, and that you may experience the Peace of our Saviour!
