Everything is about time, our perspective of it, our use of it and our value of it. God may promise us something, however, we need to realise the importance of God’s timing in receiving it. We all have an opinion of when God should fulfil His promises to us or answer our prayers regarding others. We believe we should have something now, at a certain, planned time or that someone else should receive a certain gift from God that we have been praying for them. After dinner with a friend the other night, I was reminded of just how wrong we can be in our timing compared to God’s intended timing.
In short, I was convinced my friend was making excuses for not starting something I believe God has laid on his heart. I was convinced the time was now, and I tried convincing my friend of this too, forgetting about God’s timing in it all (I later apologised to my friend and God). I forgot how seasons can last years, preparing you for future seasons. I forgot that it is ok to wait for God’s timing and not force things.
The importance of God’s timing; something we need to be aware of, something I had learn. We may think we need something now, but God might think else wise. Ultimately, God knows best. God knows what season we are in now, and what season is to come and this is why I believe the following:
I believe much to do with His timing relies on the season we are in. Let me put this in perspective.
It’s winter. You go to your cupboard, get your swimming costume out, walk outside and find the pool is frozen or in the process of freezing, either way, too cold to swim in!
It’s summer. You go to the cupboard and take out your skis, walk outside and … you see where this is going?
Somethings are only meant for certain seasons. It is the same in the spiritual realm. God has a cupboard of things to bless us with, prayers to answer, promises to fulfil, yet the season has to be right, otherwise what God gives us, we cannot use to glorify Him. If misused or used at the wrong time, in the wrong season, we might destroy the blessing itself. An example of this would be sex, a true blessing of intimacy in a marriage, but in the wrong season, sex has the potential to destroy a relationship. This is why I believe so much regarding timing relies on seasons and often we don’t even know what season we are in, yet God always knows. Thus God’s timing is always right, always better than our timing.
I would also like to point out, that without a winter there can be no spring, no flowers, no summer. There is a reason for every season. You are going through the season you are now in preparation for your next season, and until the season has come to it’s full conclusion, one should not try get out of it, as it will but only make things worse.
Hence, I hope this highlights the importance of seasons to you? To be honest, this is something I have to remind myself everyday! I don’t know about you, but I seem to find myself asking God, why not now God; later having to remind myself it has to be in God’s timing, in the right season in my life!
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
For there is a time and a way for everything, although man’s trouble lies heavy on him.
In due season. There is a time and a way for everything. Keep trusting God. Keep waiting patiently, for your season shall come when you shall reap the harvest, and boy what a harvest that will be! Today, trust God’s timing, and tell Him you are willing to wait for His timing. Live the season you are in, expectant for the future.
